One Crazy Summer

Finally, a story that takes place inside the civil rights movement that is an actual story with multi-dimensional characters that are not perfect but are all caught up in the same system. I wish schools would teach about the Black Panther Party and what they tried to do for the community, but since that’s not going to happen, we can be thankful books like this are out there where kids can be enthralled with the story and still learn some very important history. This doesn’t pull punches, which kids are going to love. Parents should read this independently and then have some good conversations around the diner table. Reading this makes me want to read the novel it was adapted from, which is just what I’m going to do along with my daughter. The power of books is indeed power to the people.
