What an incredible way to show how kids of any age struggle with identity, their place, and how to control any of it. I truly felt like I was seeing the world through the eyes of this kid as he did his best to navigate it. How insane it must have been to grow up in a time when there was no resources, no national Pride month, and no media showing that loving who you want is not a crime or a sin. Imagine going through liking someone in middle school and then not knowing if it was ok to like them? I think if kids read this book at an early age, we’d move further into a world of acceptance and understanding of each other. What could be more important these days? Again, the power of a graphic novel to tell this tale with a sense of humor is something no other genre can achieve. Important for adults as well.
