The power of graphic novels is that they open a door to a world you may not understand or even knew existed. Parents, I am talking to you. The struggle to read when your brain wants to take in all the info but won’t, can be lonely and confusing, especially when it goes undetected, uncared for, or ignored. Dyslexia takes hold of so many children’s happiness, but it doesn’t have to. This book not only shows techniques to help, but it does so by “hiding the vegetables” with a 5th grade story filled with complex characters dealing with growing up and all that comes with it. If your kids are struggling with reading or are noticing kids in their class who are having issues, have them read this and then read it yourself. It could open an entire new reality. Such an important book to be out in the universe. Truly we are in a golden age of graphic novels.
