Remarkable. Perhaps middle school is an allegory for every part of human life. This book, like so many graphic novels, tells an incredible, creative, mind-blowing story while hiding the veggies about lessons of belonging and the inability to be your true self in a world where you’re nothing like those around you. On the outside anyway. Forget all of that though. The story is one of the most creative we’ve ever read and caused rereads after the last page was turned. For any parents out there thinking that it’s impossible to find books that their kids will want to read, you can stop your search here. Parents should read this independent of their kids and then talk about it after. So much goodness.
