Graphic novels are magic because they can both visually and lyrically drop you into a world that wraps around you and takes your heart. Doodles from the Boogie Down is that kind of book. This is a kid’s fantasy because they will be let loose in buses, subways, parties, museums, clothing stores and all the other places they want to be without adults telling them what rules to follow (mostly). It’s the magic of New York but shown in a way that I’m pretty sure has never been done. Anyone who likes slice of life graphic novels that are appropriate for all ages will dive into these wonderful pages and hold them in their heart forever. This one is supremely special.
