I cried while reading a few times realizing my daughter would soon be going through all of these things. I also laughed and cheered at all the friends, love, and embarrassments taking place. The follow up to The New Girl is so important because it doesn’t blink in the physical and emotional pain of growing up - and that’s something that I can’t wait to talk about with my daughter in the coming weeks, but instead of trying to give her a life lesson she doesn’t want to hear, I can talk about Lia’s friends, school, and the life she is living. Cassandra Calin’s art style pulls you into every frame of her story. Truly remarkable.
